If you have browsed many websites, you have probably encountered some error message from time to time. An error could take place if the web server can't process a request (Error 400), if you have to log in in order to see some content and you haven't done so (Error 401), if you aren't permitted to access a page (Error 403) or when a link leads to a file which is not on the hosting server (Error 404). Receiving such messages can often be annoying as the pages don't have anything in common with the actual site. That’s why some web hosting companies permit you to use your own error pages that will match the design of your own website and which may have any content which you want - details why the error has occurred, a suggestion how to proceed or even some humorous remark. This kind of feature shall help you keep the visitor on the site no matter the error and the reason for it.

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Web Hosting

You can set up customized error pages for each of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all cloud web hosting plans that we offer, so once you log in to your Hepsia Control Panel and visit the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will show up, you may select the type of error page which should show up - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache server page or a personalized one. For the aforementioned alternative, you have to assign the URL to the page, so if you use customized pages, you must upload the files in your hosting account first. An alternative way is to use an .htaccess file positioned inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The exact syntax can be located in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you'll be able to set tailor-made error pages for any of them effortlessly through our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With only a few mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could edit the default setting from a system page to a custom made one for any of the four error types. All you have to do is provide a link to each file that you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you will be able to revert this change at any time and in exactly the same way. If you want, you can use an .htaccess file as well. It must be created/uploaded within the domain or subdomain folder associated with the website whose error pages you intend to modify and the content for such a file can be found in our Help article about this matter.
